Pakistan has taken a major step toward launching 5G services, as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) signals that the long-awaited spectrum auction could take place before Ramazan.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has taken an in-principle decision to auction the 5G spectrum ahead of Ramazan. The PTA chairman said the launch of 5G services in Pakistan is no longer far off.
Speaking in an interview with Samaa TV, he confirmed that preparations for the 5G auction have been completed.
Govt to be asked for approval
The PTA chairman said the authority will formally request the government to approve the auction of the 5G spectrum before Ramazan. He expressed optimism that the process can move swiftly once approval is granted.
This step is seen as critical in accelerating Pakistan’s digital connectivity and telecom infrastructure.

According to the PTA chairman, the Information Memorandum (IM) will be issued within the next 10 to 15 days. The IM will provide telecom operators with detailed terms and conditions of the auction.
After the issuance of the Information Memorandum, telecom operators will be given 45 days to prepare and submit their bids.
Possible auction date revealed
The PTA chairman explained that if the Information Memorandum is issued by January 1, the 5G spectrum auction could be held on February 15. This timeline would allow the auction to take place well before Ramazan.
The development marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward next-generation mobile services.
Reiterating his remarks, the PTA chairman said the launch of 5G services in Pakistan is not far off. He added that the authority is fully prepared to move ahead once procedural and governmental steps are completed.
The introduction of 5G is expected to boost innovation, improve data speeds, and support emerging technologies across the country.
