Karachi residents were shaken late Monday night as a moderate earthquake sent tremors across the city and surrounding areas, briefly sparking fear and confusion. The quake was also felt in parts of Balochistan, according to official seismic data.
Tremors were reported in several areas of Karachi, including Tipu Sultan Road and nearby localities. Many residents rushed out of their homes in panic as the ground shook for a few moments.
According to the National Seismological Center, the earthquake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale. Officials recorded the depth of the quake at 12 kilometers, categorizing it as a moderate but noticeable seismic event.
Epicentre near Sonmiani
The epicentre of the earthquake was located in Sonmiani, a coastal village in southeastern Balochistan. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre of the Meteorological Department stated that the epicentre was approximately 87 kilometers northwest of Karachi.
In an official update, the PMD confirmed that the earthquake struck late at night and affected both Karachi and parts of Balochistan. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were shared, though the sudden tremors caused widespread alarm among citizens.
