Mahira Khan, one of Pakistan’s biggest entertainment icons, has spoken out after a clip from her latest film Neelofar went viral and sparked criticism online. The actress addressed the reaction during an event hosted by Ahmed Ali Butt.
Mahira recently starred opposite Fawad Khan in Neelofar, marking the long-awaited comeback of television’s beloved on-screen duo. In the film, she plays the role of a visually impaired girl — a character that demands emotional depth and sensitivity.
A scene from the movie, showing her character Neelofar crying and hitting herself in frustration, circulated widely on social media.
The clip drew backlash from viewers who felt Mahira had not delivered the moment convincingly.

Mahira Khan addresses criticism
Speaking at Ahmed Ali Butt’s event, Mahira acknowledged that she had seen the clip spreading online. She said she was aware that the scene — particularly the moment where she hits her face — had become a talking point.
With candour, Mahira shared that everything she does ends up going viral, regardless of context. “Whether I do something or I don’t do anything, I know I will go viral,” she said, adding that the constant scrutiny has left her feeling tired.
