Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu surprised fans on Monday morning when she tied the knot with filmmaker Raj Nidimoru at the serene Ling Bhairavi Temple inside the Isha Yoga Centre.
While glimpses from the ceremony showcased her elegant, understated red saree, it is her stunning wedding ring that has captured the internet’s imagination.
Jewellery experts say the ring is far more than a piece of bridal adornment — it carries centuries of history.

Rare portrait-cut diamond
Though the couple has not publicly shared details about the ring, a jeweller revealed that Samantha’s ring features a portrait-cut diamond, one of the oldest and most refined diamond styles.
“Samantha wore a beautiful portrait-cut diamond ring… a very thin, flat diamond with a large top surface and almost no depth,” she explained.
This unique cut was historically used in Mughal-era jewellery to encase miniature paintings and royal portraits — hence the name portrait cut.
Diamond cut rooted in strength, clarity, heritage
According to the jeweller, the portrait cut is “a cut that resembles strength, vitality, and the clean character of itself and the wearer.”
She noted that early diamonds emerged from Golconda, and due to limited cutting methods at the time, this style became one of the earliest and most popular cuts.
The jeweller added that this rare gem “must be of the most supreme quality” due to its transparent, flat structure. Its large visible surface area makes it even more striking than modern round-brilliant diamonds.
The portrait cut has deep historical roots, believed to be a favourite of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, the visionary behind the Taj Mahal — the world’s greatest monument of love.
Choosing such a gem, experts say, beautifully symbolizes Samantha and Raj’s union, blending elegance, tradition, and timeless romance.
