Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda was hospitalised late Tuesday night after reportedly collapsing at his residence in Juhu, Mumbai. The 61-year-old actor was immediately rushed to CritiCare Hospital by his longtime legal advisor and close friend Lalit Bindal.
“He fainted in the evening and called me. I brought him to CritiCare Hospital. He is under observation and undergoing tests,” Bindal confirmed, adding that doctors are closely monitoring his condition.
Speaking to India Today, Bindal said the actor had been experiencing discomfort before losing consciousness. “He was feeling disoriented. All tests are done, and we are now awaiting reports and opinion of neuro consultation. He is stable now,” he shared.
Medical staff conducted a full evaluation upon his arrival, and doctors are now awaiting the outcomes of neurological consultations to guide further care. No additional complications have been reported since admission.
Previous health scare
Govinda’s hospitalisation comes a little over a year after a serious accident in which he suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. The incident occurred in October last year when the actor’s licensed revolver accidentally discharged while he was preparing to leave for a show in Kolkata early in the morning.
Recalling the incident after recovery, Govinda had said, “I was leaving for a show in Kolkata and it was early morning around 5... woh giri aur chal padi (it fell and misfired)... I was stunned and then I saw a fountain of blood coming out.”
According to his manager, the actor was keeping his licensed revolver inside a cupboard when he dropped it, causing it to go off accidentally. He was admitted to CritiCare Hospital’s ICU, where doctors extracted the bullet during an hour-long operation.
Fans and family express concern
Following treatment for the firearm injury, Govinda made a full recovery and resumed his professional activities. Just days before his latest hospitalisation, he was spotted visiting veteran actor Dharmendra at Breach Candy Hospital, looking healthy and cheerful.
Known for his iconic performances in films like Hero No. 1, Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu, and Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Govinda remains one of Bollywood’s most loved entertainers. His wife, Ssunita Ahuja, has often spoken in interviews about her wish for him to focus on fitness and take on new projects.
Fans across social media are now sending prayers and warm wishes for the actor’s speedy recovery, hoping to see him back in good health soon.
Govinda, who became synonymous with dance, humour, and larger-than-life entertainment, was last seen in the 2019 film Rangeela Raja.
