Former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz is being considered for appointment as the head coach of the national women’s cricket team, according to sources familiar with the development. The official announcement is expected soon, sources added.
The position became vacant following the end of Mohammad Wasim’s tenure, prompting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to evaluate new candidates for the role.
Wahab Riaz, a veteran of Pakistan’s national team, has previously served as senior manager of the men’s cricket team and was also a member of the national selection committee.
While Wahab has no prior coaching experience, sources confirmed that he has completed a Level 2 coaching certification course, a prerequisite for consideration for the post. His understanding of international cricket and recent involvement in team management are said to be factors in his favour.
If confirmed, Wahab Riaz will replace Mohammad Wasim and take charge ahead of the women’s team’s upcoming international assignments.
