The tenure of Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan, chief judge of the Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan, has been extended after completing his three-year contract.
According to an official notification issued by the Gilgit-Baltistan Council, his new appointment will remain in effect until he reaches the age of 70 years.
The extension was approved by the prime minister of Pakistan and chairman of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council, in consultation with the governor of Gilgit-Baltistan, as stated in the notification.
New appointment effective from Nov 5
Justice Shamim had completed his initial three-year contractual term as chief justice on Thursday. His new tenure as chief judge will be effective from November 5, allowing him to continue serving the Supreme Appellate Court until he attains the age of 70.
Officials confirmed that this extension ensures continuity in the judicial leadership of Gilgit-Baltistan’s highest court.
Justice Shamim Khan has been leading the Supreme Appellate Court Gilgit-Baltistan as its chief judge for the past three years.
