A subordinate court in Islamabad on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a liquor and arms recovery case, citing his continuous absence from court proceedings.
According to court details, Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti heard the case but neither Gandapur nor his lawyer, Zahoorul Hassan, appeared before the court. Due to their prolonged non-appearance, the magistrate ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant and directed the police to arrest and produce the suspect at the next hearing.
Case background
The case against Ali Amin Gandapur was registered at Bhara Kahu Police Station in Islamabad. It pertains to the alleged recovery of liquor and illegal arms.
The judicial magistrate noted that the suspect had been given multiple opportunities to appear before the court but failed to comply. Consequently, the court deemed it necessary to take coercive measures to ensure his attendance in the ongoing proceedings.
Following the issuance of the arrest warrant, the district and sessions court of Islamabad adjourned the hearing of the case until November 11. The court also instructed law enforcement authorities to submit a compliance report on the arrest and production of the suspect by the next date.
