Balochistan Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Tahir has said that the effects of terrorism originating from Afghanistan continue to impact the province, and the threat level has increased further following recent tensions between the two countries.
Speaking exclusively to Samaa TV, IG Tahir said that police and other law enforcement agencies are on full alert, and despite the rising threats, 99% of terrorist acts have been successfully foiled through coordinated intelligence and security operations.
Hybrid warfare and shift of terror activity to Balochistan
Muhammad Tahir described the current situation as a “hybrid war”, emphasizing that Pakistan’s security forces are fighting on multiple fronts — both physical and ideological.
“After the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan, terrorist groups shifted their focus toward Balochistan and carried out several operations,” he said. As a result, the province witnessed a noticeable increase in terror incidents, particularly in Quetta and adjoining districts.
He said vigorous steps are being taken to completely eliminate terrorism from the province, adding that the threats in different areas, including Quetta, are being closely monitored. "There are concerns of terrorist activities in various areas of Balochistan, including Quetta," the IGP cautioned.
Integration of Levies Force to strengthen policing
IGP Tahir stressed that the integration of the Levies Force into the police structure will be a turning point in improving law enforcement performance and further reducing terrorism in Balochistan.
He urged Levies personnel to view the merger as an opportunity rather than a threat, assuring them that their roles will be strengthened under the unified policing system.
Police welfare and modernisation initiatives
Highlighting reforms within the force, IGP Muhammad Tahir announced that the welfare funds for police personnel have been doubled, and the martyrs’ compensation package has also been significantly enhanced to recognize the sacrifices of fallen officers.
He also shared that the Quetta Safe City Project is nearing completion, which will greatly enhance surveillance, public safety, and crime prevention capabilities across the provincial capital.
In addition, effective operations are being conducted against poppy cultivation, reflecting the government’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking and dismantling criminal networks tied to terrorism financing.
