Police have made a major breakthrough in the murder case of Ahmed Javed, the only son of a well-known private college owner, by arresting five suspects, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to police sources, those arrested include the main suspect, Abubakar, and two security guards who were allegedly involved in the shooting. The tragic incident took place in Lahore's DHA, where Ahmed was shot and killed following a minor argument.
Manhunt underway for second main suspect
Authorities have identified another key suspect, Abdullah, who remains at large. Police officials said that efforts are underway to apprehend Abdullah, and multiple teams have been formed to trace his whereabouts.
“We have arrested five suspects, including the primary shooter, Abubakar, and two security guards. The remaining main accused, Abdullah, will soon be in custody,” a police spokesperson said.
Incident stems from minor dispute
Investigators revealed that the altercation leading to Ahmed’s murder was over a minor disagreement, which escalated tragically when the accused opened fire, fatally injuring the young man.
Ahmed Javed, described by acquaintances as a bright and well-mannered youth, was the only son of the owner of a reputed chain of private colleges in Lahore.
What happened
On Sunday, armed men allegedly shot and killed a young man and critically injured another in DHA. The deceased young man, identified as Ahmad Javed, was the only son of Adil Rasheed, the owner/patron-in-chief of a chain of colleges.
According to reports, the incident occurred in a house at DHA Phase-9, and police detained several suspects, including two young girls, for questioning.
Police said seven armed men entered a house and opened fire indiscriminately, killing Ahmad Javed and injuring another young man, Suhrab. They said two of the attackers, Abubakar and Abdullah, had fled the scene with other unidentified armed men.
Mian Adil Rasheed filed a complaint with the police, stating that his son went out to meet his friends on Saturday night and did not return home. He claimed he went to DHA Phase 9 to find his son, where he saw Abubakar, Abdullah, and their five other armed accomplices emerge from the house.
The complainant stated that they were firing when he saw them, and that all of the accomplices fled the scene in cars. He stated that when he entered the house, he discovered his young son and another man in a pool of blood. They were later rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared his son "received dead." The police transferred his body to the city morgue for post-mortem examination.
In the FIR, Adil Rasheed claimed that Abubkar, Abdullah, and other armed men murdered his son and asked the police to find and arrest them.
