Despite the Interior Minister taking notice of the issue, the sensitive personal data of Pakistani citizens remains available for sale online.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has not completed its probe within the given timeframe, raising concerns over the delay.
Investigation report delayed
According to sources, the NCCIA investigation team was required to complete its findings within 14 days and submit the report to the Interior Ministry. However, the team has now requested an extension of three weeks to finalize the report.
Committee’s mandate
The committee had been tasked with identifying the individuals or groups leaking and selling personal data, as well as the websites and mobile applications involved in the illegal trade. Once identified, these platforms were to be shut down to curb the data leaks.
Growing concerns over data security
The delay in the probe has intensified concerns about cybersecurity and citizens’ privacy. With Pakistani data still reportedly accessible for sale despite ministerial directives, critics argue that urgent action is needed to plug systemic loopholes and protect sensitive information.
