The federal government has issued details of recent changes in petroleum product pricing, revealing adjustments in duties, levies, and margins on petrol and high-speed diesel.
While diesel saw a reduction in customs duty and freight charges, petrol witnessed an increase in its freight margin despite stable petroleum levies.
Changes in diesel pricing
According to the official notification, customs duty on high-speed diesel (HSD) has been reduced by Rs2.58 per liter, while the exchange rate adjustment dropped by 13 paisa per liter.

The petroleum levy on HSD has been maintained at Rs77.10 per liter, along with the carbon credit levy of Rs2.50 per liter. Meanwhile, the freight margin was cut by 14 paisa, and the extra margin reduced by 15 paisa.
Petrol pricing adjustments
On petrol, government documents confirm a reduction of 69 paisa in duties and taxes. However, the exchange rate impact increased by 52 paisa per liter.
Despite these changes, the petroleum levy remains fixed at Rs78 per liter, while the carbon levy stays at Rs2.50 per liter. Notably, the freight margin on petrol was raised by 17 paisa.
On August 31 at midnight, the federal government issued revised prices of petroleum products for the next fortnight, effective from September 1. According to details, the price of petrol has remained unchanged at Rs264.61 per litre.
The price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs3 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs269.99 per litre.
