Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja are once again in the headlines after reports surfaced that Sunita filed for divorce, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion.
The case, registered in December 2024 at the Bandra Family Court, has added fuel to speculation about the couple’s troubled marriage.
Sunita Ahuja files divorce petition
According to a report by Hauterrfly, Sunita submitted her petition on December 5, 2024, invoking Section 13 (1) (i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. These sections pertain to adultery, cruelty, and desertion as grounds for divorce.
Court records reveal that Govinda failed to appear until a show cause notice was issued in May 2025. Meanwhile, Sunita has been regularly attending the hearings and has participated in court-mandated counselling sessions.
Govinda’s team denies divorce reports
Reacting to the controversy, Govinda’s lawyer Lalit Bindra dismissed the case, saying, “There is no case, everything is being settled, people are just bringing up old matters. This Ganesh Chaturthi, you will see everyone together.”
His manager Shashi echoed similar views, insisting the couple is working on their differences. “Every couple sees ups and downs. Govinda can never be violent or cruel. People are resurfacing old stories to tarnish his image,” he told Hindustan Times.
Sunita speaks out in vlog
Amid court proceedings, Sunita shared her side through a YouTube vlog. Visiting Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Temple, she became emotional while recalling her prayers for a lasting marriage.
She said: “Whoever tries to break my home, Maa Kaali is there. It is not right to cause pain to a good man and a good woman.”
Her words sparked discussions online, especially after she removed Govinda’s surname from her social media handle, adding to speculation about their relationship.
Friends and industry voices weigh in
While Govinda’s team continues to deny the divorce rumours, a close friend of the couple admitted to witnessing violent fights between the two but insisted they always reconciled.
Producer Pahlaj Nihalani also came to Govinda’s defense, stating: “Nobody can get between Sunita and Govinda’s eternal love. They may fight, but they will never separate permanently.”
