The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Saturday handed over Shershah Khan, the second nephew of PTI founder Imran Khan and son of his sister Aleema Khan, to police on a five-day physical remand in connection with the May 9 Jinnah House attack case.
Court proceedings
ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul heard the police’s request for a 30-day physical remand. During the hearing, the investigating officer presented video footage of the Jinnah House attack, claiming that Shershah was present at the scene. He informed the court that photogrammetric and polygraphic tests were yet to be conducted.
The officer further stated that Shershah was named in the case based on supplementary statements and argued that extended custody was necessary for a detailed investigation.
Defense’s argument
Defending Shershah, lawyer Salman Akram Raja contended that the suspect was falsely implicated to harass him. He highlighted that the case surfaced after a 27-month delay, raising questions about its credibility. Raja warned that if such trends continued, “the entire city will be arrested.”
He pleaded with the court not to grant physical remand of the suspect and discharge him.
Court’s decision
After reviewing the arguments and evidence, the ATC reserved its verdict before approving a five-day physical remand instead of the 30 days requested by the police.
The case is linked to the violent protests on May 9, when the Jinnah House, or Lahore Corps Commander House, came under attack following the arrest of the PTI founder. Shershah has been named in the case registered at Sarwar Road police station.
