The three-member investigation committee probing the death of journalist Khawar Hussain in Sanghar has concluded that the case was a suicide, according to its official report submitted this week.
The report, spanning 30 pages including medical records, reviewed all available evidence — from CCTV footage to medical and postmortem findings — and unanimously determined that Hussain had taken his own life.
CCTV footage reviewed in detail
The committee confirmed that surveillance videos from Khawar Hussain’s journey between Karachi and Sanghar were thoroughly examined. This included footage of his entry into the hotel parking lot and the final moments leading up to the incident.

Officials said the videos were reviewed “from every angle,” leaving little doubt about the conclusion.
Medical and postmortem findings
Alongside the CCTV analysis, the medical and postmortem reports also supported the finding of suicide. The committee stated that these records aligned with the visual evidence collected from the hotel and surrounding areas.
Family urged to come forward
While ruling out foul play, the committee emphasized that the family’s cooperation is essential to better understand the circumstances and reasons behind Khawar Hussain’s decision.
Committee members
The probe was led by Additional IG Azad Khan, with DIG Irfan Baloch and SSP Abid Baloch as members of the committee.
A week ago, the death of the young journalist in Sanghar raised questions after his body was found with a gunshot wound inside his car. Shaheed Benazirabad DIG Faisal Bashir Memon had said that no evidence was found to suggest it was a murder. A pistol recovered from the vehicle was identified as Khawar’s licensed personal weapon and sent for forensic examination.

CCTV footage from before the incident showed Khawar entering and leaving a hotel. According to police, the hotel manager had asked a guard to approach his car, where Khawar was later discovered dead.
His brother-in-law Zubair Ali had stated Khawar had no known enmity and was last in contact four days earlier. He said the family was unaware of Khawar’s visit to Sanghar.
A couple of days later. a preliminary investigation report stated that Khawar Hussain had reset his mobile phone to factory settings before taking his life, deleting all records and removing the SIM card. Sources revealed that his last call was made to a water tanker driver near Hyderabad, after which no further activity was detected on his phone.
CCTV footage showed Khawar Hussain entering a hotel parking lot, later visiting a tyre shop opposite the hotel where he obtained his phone PIN and removed the SIM. Investigators said he ended his life between 10:05pm and 10:15pm inside his car.
Weapon and forensic details
Police recovered Khawar Hussain’s licensed personal pistol from the vehicle. Forensic testing confirmed that the weapon was fired inside the car, supporting the committee’s conclusion of suicide.
