Torrential rains and devastating floods have wreaked havoc in Buner, killing at least 213 people, injuring hundreds, and leaving dozens missing.
Rescue teams warn the death toll could rise as search operations continue in hard-hit areas.
Massive destruction across tehsils
According to local officials, Gadezi tehsil suffered the highest casualties, with more than 150 people killed. Around 850 residents were moved to safer locations as floodwaters swept through villages. In Dagar tehsil, 25 people lost their lives, while timely intervention saved 160 others.

In Gulbandi, tragedy struck a single household when 22 family members were buried under rubble. Meanwhile, Chagharzai reported 38 bodies recovered and 35 injured sent to hospitals.
Markets and villages destroyed
The floods left villages and markets in ruins, causing severe damage to homes, shops, and infrastructure. Officials describe the scale of destruction as “unprecedented” for the region with heavy loss of life and property.

Round-the-clock rescue operations
Rescue 1122 teams, along with special units from Swabi and Peshawar, are working day and night to locate missing persons and provide aid. Boats, heavy machinery, and emergency medical teams have been deployed to affected zones.
Authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate immediately as weather warnings remain in place.

The PDMA has issued an initial report of the havoc caused by the flash floods and rain in various districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as per which, 189 people have been killed and 21 injured in the province in various incidents during the last 24 hours.
Out of these, 163 men, 14 women and 12 children were killed. According to the PDMA, 38 houses were partially damaged, whereas seven houses destroyed completely.
Flood incidents have been reported in Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla and Battagram. Meanwhile, Bajaur and Battagram have faced more damage due to the inclement weather. The KP CM has urged the authorities concerned to speed up their activities in this regard.
The PDMA said that Rs500 million have been issued for the areas mostly affected by floods. Out of this, Rs150 million has been allocated to Buner, whereas Bajaur, Battagram, and Manshera have been given Rs100 million each, and Rs50 million would be given to Swat.
