A social worker in Karachi has introduced a method to make stormwater drain water usable by planting hydrophyte plants, which naturally filter and clean the water.
Aman Khan Kakakhel said he has planted hydrophytes in a drain in North Nazimabad, adding that the same technique could be applied to the Malir and Lyari rivers to purify their water.
He noted that the plants are environmentally friendly and help reduce heat intensity in urban areas.
