The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken major action against cyber fraud, blocking more than 13,000 malicious URLs this year after receiving complaints of electronic scams on social media.
Thousands of fraudulent links removed
According to PTA’s latest report, 13,185 URLs linked to online fraud were blocked up to July 21. These actions followed investigations into complaints from the public about fraudulent activities carried out via popular social platforms.
Social media platforms cooperate with PTA
The report shows that social media companies, including Facebook, YouTube, X, and Instagram, acted on nearly 99% of PTA’s takedown requests.
-
Facebook removed 1,246 out of 1,357 URLs identified by PTA.
-
YouTube blocked 99 out of 122 URLs, with action against eight more still under review.
PTA said it had worked closely with social media companies to ensure the swift removal of harmful content targeting Pakistani users.
Caution for internet users
The authority has urged citizens to remain vigilant against online scams, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and report any cyber fraud attempts to relevant authorities.
