Firefighters in Karachi worked tirelessly on Friday to tackle two separate factory fires in the Landhi Export Processing Zone, with one blaze still smouldering in parts of a collapsed building.
Officials say the cooling process in the affected factories may take several more hours.
First factory fire still smouldering
According to Rescue 1122 In-charge Lubna Fazal, the first fire broke out yesterday and continues to burn in some areas of the collapsed structure. Fire in the plastic grains and bundles of old cloth buried under the debris has made firefighting difficult.
She said firefighters are struggling to access certain hotspots due to the rubble from the collapse, and the cooling process could take another 10 to 15 hours.
Second factory fire controlled
Earlier in the day, a second fire erupted in another factory within the Landhi Export Processing Zone. Fire brigade officials confirmed that it was brought under control within two and a half hours after a combined effort by eight fire tenders, three bowsers, and two snorkels.

No workers were inside at the time, and no casualties or injuries were reported.
Firefighting challenges
The collapse of parts of the first factory has complicated rescue efforts, forcing teams to work cautiously to avoid further structural damage.
Authorities assured that the fires are under control and that further spread has been prevented, though cooling operations will continue until all hotspots are extinguished.
