The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert through August 3, warning of possible urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides across various regions of Pakistan.
According to an NDMA spokesperson, multiple areas are at risk of urban flooding, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, and Khushab. Rising water levels are also expected in local streams such as Bein, Basantar, and Deg.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 12 to 24 hours, posing a risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions. Rain is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mansehra, and Battagram.
Additional rainfall is likely in Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, and Charsadda, with heavy showers predicted in Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan.
NDMA also cautioned about potential glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to melting glaciers.
Authorities have directed relevant departments to take precautionary measures and ensure preparedness to mitigate the impact of any natural disasters.
