The Sindh government has officially abolished parking fees across all 25 towns of Karachi, following directives from Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, according to a notification issued by the Local Government Department.
The decision was made after a formal request from Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, who urged the chief minister to eliminate parking fees to provide relief to citizens and address growing complaints over illegal fee collection.
Previously, the collection of parking charges was already prohibited within the jurisdiction of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). However, the latest directive expands the ban across all towns in the city, aiming to clamp down on unauthorized fee collection and provide uniformity in parking regulations.
According to the notification, parking fees will now only be permitted in designated areas, such as private plazas, specific plots, or locations under the jurisdiction of particular councils. All other public areas are to remain completely free of parking charges.
Government officials have warned of strict action against any individuals or groups found illegally collecting parking fees, emphasizing that the ban is being implemented in the public interest.
