In a major development in the Degari double murder case, Quetta police have arrested Gul Jan, the mother of the deceased Bano Bibi, after she publicly confessed to her involvement in the killings through a video message circulated on social media.
According to police officials, the video, which quickly went viral, showed Gul Jan justifying the murder of her own daughter and a young man in the Degari area, claiming it was done in accordance with local customs. In the video, she openly admitted her role in the crime, prompting authorities to take swift action.
Following her arrest, Gul Jan was presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court in Quetta, where the police requested her physical remand for further investigation. Officials informed the court that critical information is still needed from the suspect, and more details about the planning and execution of the crime are expected to emerge during interrogation.

The court accepted the police’s request and handed over the suspect to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing on a two-day remand.
The double murder, which occurred just days before Eid-ul-Adha, involved the public killing of Bano Bibi and a young man in the Degari area of Quetta. The gruesome incident shocked the nation after footage of the crime surfaced on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Sarfaraz Bugti had taken notice of the incident and ordered immediate action. Several arrests have been made in connection with the case so far, including that of tribal elder Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai, who is currently in police custody on a 10-day physical remand.

Police say they are continuing raids to apprehend other suspects, including Bano Bibi’s brother, who remains at large.
Earlier this week, the bodies of the victims of the alleged honour killing had been exhumed from their graves after a court order, and a post-mortem confirmed they were shot multiple times.
According to Dr. Ayesha Faiz, a police surgeon at Civil Hospital Quetta, the post-mortem of Bano Bibi and Ehsanullah Samalani revealed that the woman was shot seven times, while the man was shot nine times, causing their deaths. The gruesome incident reportedly occurred on June 4, she reported.
The Balochistan Police registered a case and launched a crackdown on those allegedly involved. So far, 13 suspects were arrested, including the designated tribal leader Sherbaz Satakzai and a close relative of the female victim.
Sherbaz Satakzai was presented in Anti-Terrorism Court, which handed him over to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing on a one-day physical remand. The police are continuing raids to apprehend other accomplices.
