In a shocking incident, police officers deployed on protocol duty in Lahore’s Dharampura area thwarted a father’s attempt to throw his three children off a bridge.
The children were safely rescued and handed over to the Child Protection Bureau.
According to police, the security personnel were stationed in the area as part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s protocol route, as she was scheduled to pass through the Dharampura underpass just minutes later.
During this time, the suspect tried to throw his children off the bridge but was immediately stopped and arrested by the alert police officers.
Police confirmed that the chief minister was in the vicinity to review the enforcement of the ban on swimming in the canal.
The suspect has been identified as Tasawwar Abbas, a resident of Jhang. Authorities revealed that Abbas’s wife had left him because he was unemployed and addicted to drugs. Police said the man allegedly intended to get rid of his children by using unemployment as an excuse.
A case of attempted murder has been registered against the accused. The rescued children—a three-year-old daughter and two sons aged six and ten—have been transferred to the Child Protection Bureau for their safety.
