The security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Sararogha area of South Waziristan, neutralizing 11 Indian-backed terrorists and injuring seven more, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During the intense exchange of fire, two soldiers — Major Syed Moeez Abbas Shah (37) of Chakwal and Lance Naik Jibranullah (27) of Bannu — were martyred.
Major Moeez had served the Pakistan Army with distinction for 14 years. He was widely recognized for his courage and tactical brilliance in several anti-terror operations. Notably, he was the officer before whom Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman surrendered after his MiG-21 was shot down during the 2019 aerial conflict.
“As soon as I approached him, he saw my rank and said, ‘Captain, I am Indian Air Force Wing Commander 27981 Abhinandan Varthaman, and I surrender. Please save me.’ From that moment, it became my professional obligation to treat him accordingly,” Major Moeez had once recounted.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Lance Naik Jibranullah had been part of the Pakistan Army for eight years. He fought bravely alongside his comrades and laid down his life in the line of duty. He is survived by his wife and three sons.
According to ISPR, the operation was launched based on credible intelligence, targeting Indian-sponsored elements attempting to destabilize Pakistan’s peace.
“The sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve to wipe out terrorism from our soil,” the military spokesperson stated. “Security forces are determined to make Pakistan a cradle of peace.”
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs and the security forces.
“The nation is proud of its brave sons who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their courage and determination inspire us all, and their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” the national leadership said in a joint statement.
They also expressed solidarity with the families of the martyrs and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism from the country.
