The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a significant shift in electricity prices through its latest monthly fuel adjustment, bringing relief to power consumers in Karachi while increasing the cost for consumers in other parts of the country.
According to a notification issued by NEPRA, electricity rates for Karachi have been reduced by Rs2.99 per unit for a month. This cut applies under the March 2025 fuel cost adjustment and will reflect in the June electricity bills for K-Electric customers.
In contrast, electricity prices for the rest of the country have increased by 93 paisas per unit under the April 2025 adjustment, putting additional financial pressure on power consumers already grappling with inflation and high utility costs.
NEPRA has issued separate notifications for K-Electric and other distribution companies, clarifying that the adjustments stem from different fuel cost calculations based on region-specific power generation and distribution.
The reduction in Karachi’s power rates is expected to bring temporary relief to millions of consumers, while those in other cities will see a rise in their electricity bills next month.
