The federal government has proposed a development budget of Rs1,000 billion for the fiscal year 2025–26, with a focus on infrastructure, energy, and water resource projects, Samaa TV has learned from reliable sources.
The proposal will be tabled for approval during the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) meeting scheduled for June 2.
According to budget documents obtained by Samaa TV, major allocations in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) include Rs170 billion for road infrastructure, primarily for the National Highway Authority (NHA), and Rs140 billion for water-related projects.
The power division is expected to receive Rs105 billion, while the Higher Education Commission (HEC) may face a cut in funding due to fiscal constraints, with an allocation of only Rs50 billion proposed. This marks a possible Rs11 billion reduction compared to last year’s budget.
Sources said Rs9 billion is planned to be spent on road construction projects alone, while other ministries have been allocated significantly smaller amounts. These include Rs4 billion for national food security, Rs3.5 billion for maritime affairs, and Rs1.5 billion for inter-provincial connectivity.
Additionally, Rs3 billion each may be allocated to the ministries of information and of industry and production.
The final approval of the federal development budget will be sought from the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) meeting scheduled for June 2. The National Economic Council (NEC) is likely to convene on June 6 to approve macroeconomic targets for the upcoming fiscal year.
The National Economic Survey for the current fiscal year 2024-25 will be released on June 9.
However, sources indicate that some ministries have expressed reservations about the reduced funding in certain sectors, particularly education and food security.
