The anti-terrorism court of Islamabad has granted two-day physical remand of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in the case of violence and vandalism at the Judicial Complex.
ATC judge Shahrukh Arjumand pronounced his reserved verdict.
Elahi was arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department in the case registered at the CTD police station of Islamabad.
Parvez Elahi’s lawyer filed a request for a meeting with his family. They have requested for a meeting between Elahi and his lawyers and family.
Defence lawyer Ali Bukhari urged for discharging the PTI president from the case.
The prosecutor told the court that Elahi had been sought by the Islamabad police in a case registered in March. He had been arrested legally.
The suspect’s lawyer said the high court had barred his client’s arrest in any case. A contempt of court application has been submitted in the high court against Parvez Elahi’s arrest
Recovery petition disposed of
The Lahore High Court disposed of the petition for Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s recovery as ineffective and issued a contempt of court notice to the Islamabad chief commissioner over non-appearance.
Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf ordered that the Registrar’s Office prepare a separate file for action against the officials.
Justice Rauf heard the petition of Parvez Elahi's wife Qaisara for the recovery of her husband and contempt against police officials for re-arresting him multiple times despite the court’s restraining orders.
The Attock DPO and jail superintendent appeared in court. The court ordered the police officers to submit their replies to the show-cause notices.
At the outset of the heating, Justice Rauf questioned what action could be taken after yesterday's development of re-arresting Elahi despite IHC’s orders to release him just hours before that.
“Now only contempt of court action can be taken against the officers,” the court remarked.

Qaisara Elahi’s petition states that the court order was defied by arresting her husband, adding that the court had ordered not to arrest the former chief minister in any case.
“Fundamental rights are being violated here,” the lawyer stated.
The judge remarked that the matter of Elahi’s detention had gone to the Islamabad High Court from where the release was ordered. After that he was arrested in another FIR, he added.
Parvez Elahi’s custody was with the court, the petitioner's lawyer said.
Why the Islamabad chief commissioner did not appear, asked Justice Rauf.
The petitioner’s lawyer said the Lahore High Court had ordered there would neither be detention nor arrest in any case.
“The FIR is in Islamabad, so how can this court interfere?” asked the judge.
The lawyer said this is malicious on the part of the Islamabad police that they arrested Parvez Elahi in one case after being released in another.
The judge questioned that Elahi was ordered to be produced in court so why the order has not been implemented.
He was arrested from the limits of Islamabad, so this court does not have jurisdiction on the matter, said the Islamabad advocate general.
Justice Rauf said Parvez Elahi was in Attock Jail earlier, so the Lahore High Court heard the case.
He had been transferred to PIMS and then to the capital Police Lines, the advocate general said.
