The Power Division has notified the privatization of electricity distribution companies across the country.
According to the Power Division, the first phase will see the privatization of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO).
The notification further stated that the second phase will include the privatisation of additional companies, such as Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) and Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO).
Sources indicate that the privatisation process will eventually encompass all power sector organizations, with instructions already issued for the privatization of twelve entities within the sector.
This move is part of the government’s broader strategy to reform the power sector and enhance efficiency through privatization.
