The threat of the polio virus looms once again in the country as recent environmental samples from Peshawar and Pishin have confirmed its presence.
The Anti-Polio Program’s spokesperson said that samples were obtained on September 5 from Peshawar and on September 4 from Pishin, revealing the presence of the polio virus in sewage samples.
The speaker added that there is a genetic link between this virus and the virus in Afghanistan.
Dr. Nadeem Jan, the interim health minister, stated that Pakistan’s environmental samples show poliovirus contamination, which is concerning given that poliovirus is deadly for all children when it exists over the border. In order to eradicate polio, Pakistan and Afghanistan must cooperate.
He said, “More than 40 million youngsters will be immunized nationwide during a polio campaign being coordinated at the national level.”
